Asbestos Survey
Type 1: Location and assessment survey
(presumptive survey)
The purpose of this survey is to locate the extent of any possible asbestos
containing materials (ACM’s). This survey does not include sampling,
and relies heavily on the surveyor’s experience. All areas should
be accessed, as far as reasonably practicable. Any material suspected to
contain asbestos must be presumed to contain asbestos until proven otherwise.
Type 2: Standard sampling, identification and assessment survey (sampling
survey)
The purpose and procedure used in this survey are the same as for a Type
1, except samples are collected from any suspected ACM.
If a material sampled is found to contain asbestos, other similar homogonous
materials used in the same way in the building can be strongly presumed
to contain asbestos.
Type 3: Full access sampling and identification survey
(pre-demolition/major refurbishment surveys)
A Type 3 is commonly referred to as a ‘destructive survey’ and
is intended as a pre-refurbishment or demolition survey. Areas that are
normally listed as no-access in a Type1 or Type 2 survey are inspected.
This survey must be carried out when the building is empty for safety reasons.
Our
surveyors at Pennine Environmental are fully experienced and qualified
to carry out each of these surveys. |
